Chief of Police Dave Gamache Welcome Letter

As the Chief of Police for the City of Yreka, I strive to uphold our mission statement “We will work together with the community to make the public concerns our concerns, to protect life and property and enhance the quality of life in our community.”

I am so proud to be the leader of such an amazing group of dedicated men and women who live to serve the citizens and visitor of Yreka. We are committed to making Yreka a safe place to live, work and play. 

On behalf of the 15 sworn police officers, 11 civilian and 2 volunteers of the Yreka Police Department, we would like to say thank you for the tremendous support shown by such a great community!

Dave Gamache - Chief of Police

Chief Gamache has been with the Yreka Police Department for 26 years, having been sworn in as the youngest full-time police officer at the age of 19. He has served as a Patrol Officer,
Narcotics agent, Detective, Sergeant, Operations Lieutenant and appointed as the Chief of Police in 2018.
Over his career, he has served in every position except Animal Control and Dispatch. Chief Gamache has deep ties to the community, having been born and raised in Yreka and Scott Valley.
Chief Gamache stated that he was first introduced to the idea of being a police officer by his
older brother Chris Gamache, who recently retired from the Yreka Police Department after 27 years of service, and Deputy Gary Bartolotti of the Siskiyou Co. Sheriff’s Dept., in 1991.

The Department

 The Yreka Police Department is staffed with 14 sworn personnel and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to serve our community. The Yreka Police Department offers Detectives, Field Training Officer and Narcotics Task Force. The Yreka Police Department also offers free services to the community, such as child car seat inspection, free cars seats to those in need, and bike helmets for children.
