Joan Smith Freeman
Joan Smith Freeman is Mayor of the City of Yreka. She has lived in the area since 1974. She lives in Yreka with her husband, Gary. Joan is very proud of her two grown sons, daughters-in-law and two grandchildren. Joan, along with her husband Gary, has been the Owner/Principal and President of ClearPath Consulting since 2005.
Joan was elected to the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors in 1997 and served two terms, retiring in January 2005. While serving as Siskiyou County Supervisor she was on the Executive Board for Regional Council of Rural Counties, served on the Executive Board of the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) and served as Chair of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee for CSAC. She also served on the Technology Committee and the Environment, Energy and Land Use Steering Committee for National Association of Counties.
Joan is very honored to have received the California State Assembly "Woman of the Year Award" for Assembly District 2. She is the President and founding member of the Yreka Chapter of Women in Business Network.
Joan was President of the National Association of Resource Conservation and Development Councils and on the Board for a number of years. She was a long-time director on the Northern Rural Training and Employment Consortium (NoRTEC) Board of Directors. This organization brings training, jobs and funding to the north state. She was also on the Superior California Economic Development District Board. She was President of the Siskiyou County Economic Development Council and a member of the Board of Directors for 14 years.
Joan Sith Freeman has a long history of working on local issues as Executive Director of the Klamath Alliance for Resources and Environment (KARE), Siskiyou County Farm Bureau as well as the Yreka Chamber of Commerce. She has been a member of the Montague and Yreka Rotary for a total of 20 years including a year serving as Yreka Rotary President from July 2013 to June 2014.
