A fifth generation Yrekan, Rory McNeil comes from a family of civil servants. Rory was twice Mayor of Yreka and continues to serve as a Council Member on the City Council, the third woman in Yreka's past to do so. Of her home town, Rory writes, "I continually discover new and wonderful reasons to live here....I am proud of my city and I invite you to come stay a while here in Yreka. I promise that you'll soon discover that we aren't called the Golden City solely because of our golden past."

Jason Darrow - Mayor Pro-Tempore

P.O. Box 527
Yreka, CA 96097

Jason Darrow became a City Council member in June of 2008. New to community involvement but not to the community, Jason has recently served on the Planning Commission and helped with Ringe Pool restoration. He is also the coach for the Yreka High School Swim Team and the owner of Good-To-Go Espresso. Focused on the concept of reinvigorating the community through economic development ideas, Jason joined the City Council to become more active in solving some of our community problems. Jason is looking forward to the opportunity for the community and business partners to come together to make our community even better.

I grew up as a boy in Hilt, a small lumber town in the northern part of the County. When I was ready to start the Seventh Grade we moved to Yreka, which was the big City. It's funny because a lot of my current friends moved from "big" cities to Yreka; we all ended up in the same place, but took different directions to get here. I graduated from Jackson Street Elementary and later Yreka High School. After graduation, I enrolled in my new life at Chico State College. Learning everything I could about the new world, exploring and adding adventures to my life, I decided to come back to Siskiyou County and try my luck at being a Farmer. I loved the cows and the work, but the money never seemed to be there for me so I became a carpenter. Later expanding my trade to Building Contractor and after doing my small real estate projects got my Real Estate Broker's License. I have been involved in subdivisions, lot splits and one annexation. I currently, have a small residential subdivision and build homes for a living. I love Yreka and I am truly a Yreka Boy. Having this opportunity to be a part of City Government is very exciting and presents lots of challenges. I hope that at the end of my term, I will be able to say that "we did this or we did that" and maybe those changes would have made Yreka an even better place.
