Maintenance Division
Vernice Haddix - Maintenance Manager
The Maintenance Division maintains the following public areas throughout the City by repairing, installing, replacing and cleaning our 52 centerline road miles of streets, lights, and storm drains as well as our 82 miles of water distribution system and 48 miles sewer system. During storm events, Public Works conducts additional storm drain cleaning of debris on top of snow removal and street cindering within the city limits. During the holiday months of November to January, decorations are also installed by Public Works in Historic downtown Yreka.
Streets
Maintenance performs minor patching of streets and helps with chip seals and overlays. The City also runs a sidewalk repair program. If there is a public tripping hazard in a residential area, Public Works will replace the designated sidewalk, curb or gutter. However, it is the responsibility of the home owner to pay for the cost of the replacement.

Sidewalks
Property owners are responsible for maintaining the sidewalks along the frontage of the property. However, Maintenance will perform “temporary” repairs of sidewalks. The Division has a sidewalk repair policy for residential property owners only. For “permanent” repairs, the Division will perform the work if the property owner pays for the materials.
Storm Drains
Maintenance cleans the drainage inlets, particularly of fallen leaves, and the storm drains. Residents are encouraged not to dispose of their leaves in the street because clogged drains can lead to flooding.
Sewers and Water Lines
The Public Works Maintenance Division performs repairs and routine maintenance to the City sewer systems and water lines.
Snow Removal
Snow removal operates during snow storms when snow depth reaches 4" at the Police Department. Snow removal only includes streets within the City limits and does not include sidewalks. Maintenance plows to the side of the road and encourages residents not to park on the streets during snow removal or shovel additional snow into the streets. The City also cinders street intersections for safety.
