Fleet Management

Randy Horn - Fleet Manager

Our Mission

Fleet Management is dedicated to provide the City of Yreka with safe reliable equipment so that all divisions can perform their work efficiently and safely. To meet this, we look at many things such as vehicle age, maintenance procedures, safety, diagnostic tools, and logistics. Our goal is to work in partnership with our customers and operators to provide high quality services in a cost-effective manner.

The Division

The Fleet Management Division consists of two employees, Randy Horn, Fleet Manager, and Tim Shaw, Senior Mechanic. We are responsible for the service and repair of 155 pieces of equipment; varying from chain saws and weed eaters to police cruisers, fire trucks, portable emergency generators, off-road construction equipment and the busses for the Senior Program. If the City owns it, we service it! The services we provide in house are: complete engine diagnostics, brakes, air conditioning, welding, fabricating, outfitting of police cruisers and fire service vehicles, and overall maintenance and repair. Fleet Management provides technical assistance to all divisions for equipment specifications and purchase of new and used equipment as well as being responsible for the acquisition and disposal of all city vehicles. Additionally, we manage and maintain the key-lock fuel system.

Qualifications

We have certificates for engine diagnostics and air brake systems and are ASE certified in Refrigerant Recovery & Recycling and master mechanics. We annually attend a wide range of continuing education seminars to keep up on the ever-changing technology.

Goals

Continue to upgrade our facilities to be more efficient and cost effective. Continue to replace older vehicles and equipment with newer electronically controlled systems that are more fuel efficient, complying with new ARB (Air Resources Board) regulations.
